This Miniature Sheet commemorates the formation of the Women's Jersey Political Union. The WJPU was established in 1923 after initial legislation enabling women to vote in Jersey had been passed. Its primary objective was 'to obtain full and political rights for women in Jersey.' Established between the two world wars, the Union very firmly reflected the changing political climate of the time.

2018 marks 100 years since the 1918 Representation of the People Act came into force in Britain and Ireland, providing some women a vote in parliamentary elections for the first time. This reform to the electoral system laid the foundations for Jersey's own Franchise Bill, passed in 1919, enabling women to vote on the Island for the first time. Six stamps and a Miniature Sheet, document some of the landmark events in the campaign for women's suffrage, leading up to and including electoral reform in both the United Kingdom and Jersey. The designs show key moments in the history of women's suffrage displayed on placards and banners held by women and typically associated with the suffrage movement.
