Jersey Post is delighted to celebrate the 65th Birthday of HRH The Prince of Wales by issuing this commemorative Stamp and Souvenir Miniature Sheet. It depicts a photograph of His Royal Highness in his ceremonial Welsh Guards uniform taken by Hugo Burnand, the official portrait taken to mark his 60th birthday. HRH The Prince of Wales was born Charles Philip Arthur George on 14 November 1948, the eldest son of HRH Princess Elizabeth and HRH Prince Phillip. On the death of King George VI in 1952 and his mother's subsequent accession to the throne as Queen Elizabeth II, he became the heir apparent to the throne at three years of age. When, on 26 July 1958, he was created Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester, Prince Charles became the first Prince of Wales since 1936. His investiture as HRH The Prince of Wales was a State occasion held before the Welsh people at Caernarfon Castle on 1 July 1969. The Prince is heavily involved in his role of supporting The Queen in her duties, providing a focus for national pride, unification, stability and continuity. He also receives dignitaries who visit the UK and attends State dinners during State visits and at overseas State and ceremonial occasions. In his public life, Prince Charles is highly active in representing many charities that support the environment, business and the welfare of disadvantaged young people. The Prince's Trust, which he founded in 1976, focuses its efforts on helping young people in the UK with education, employment and training. He is also heavily involved in highlighting architectural and environmental issues, supporting rural communities and sustainable farming. In addition, The Prince founded The Prince of Wales's Charitable Foundation. Established in 1979 it has become one of the largest independent foundations in the UK.
