Charles Philip Arthur George, the first son of Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born on 14th November 1948 at Buckingham Palace, London, at 9.14pm, weighing 7lb and 6oz. In keeping with royal tradition, an announcement was made to the British public with a proclamation posted on the railings of the Palace, just before midnight. The young Prince Charles was christened on 15th December, in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace, by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Geoffrey Fisher.
Prince Charles is father to two sons, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Henry, Duke of Sussex, by his first wife, Princess Diana. Since his marriage in 2005 to Camilla Shand, he has also become grandfather to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the children of Prince William and his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
His 70th birthday was celebrated on 22nd May, 2018 during a 70th Birthday Patronage Celebration in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.
