Charles Philip Arthur George, the first son of Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born on 14th November 1948 at Buckingham Palace, London, at 9.14pm. His mother ascended the throne on February 6th 1952, whereupon Prince Charles, as the eldest son of the monarch, automatically took the titles Duke of Cornwall , Duke of Rothesay , Earl of Carrick , Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland.
Charles was invested as Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester on 26th July 1958 during a ceremony held at Caernarfon Castle during which he was crowned by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Marking the occasion of his 70th birthday, six commemorative stamps feature iconic portraits of HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, at different ages.

Prince Charles is father to two sons, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Henry, Duke of Sussex, by his first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales. Since his marriage in 2005 to Camilla Shand, Charles has also become grandfather to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the children of Prince William and his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
