A special commemorative sheet of stamps will be issued by Jersey Post on Thursday 12 May to celebrate the 100th Muratti Vase.
The Hepburns Insurance Muratti Vase is an annual inter-insular football competition played between Alderney, Guernsey and Jersey. This year, the tournament final will take place on Saturday 14 May 2016 at Springfield Stadium in Jersey.
The commemorative stamp sheets created by Jersey Post feature a montage of historic press cuttings and nostalgic images looking back at past tournaments and players. Set within the sheets are twenty self-adhesive Local Letter stamps depicting the Crest of Jersey, each affixed to a decorative label showing a key moment or piece of memorabilia.
“The Muratti is always hotly contested and the high point of the Channel Islands football calendar,” comments Chris Elligott, Jersey Post's Philatelic Production Coordinator. “The first Muratti final took place at Springfield on 27 April 1905, and since its inception, the competition has been interrupted only between 1915-1919 and 1940-1946 due to the First and Second World Wars. Our commemorative stamp sheets provide an insight into some historic moments from the competition’s 100 year history and are a fascinating collector’s item or a novel way to decorate your mail when posting letters locally.”
In addition to the commemorative sheets, the Crest of Jersey stamps from Jersey Post’s JE02 Post & Go kiosk at Broad Street post office will vend Post & Go stamp labels with a special Muratti overprint from Saturday 14 May until 14 June 2016. The overprint will read: 100th Muratti Vase and collectors strips will be available from the Jersey Philatelic Bureau whilst stocks last.
The Commemorative Sheets will be on sale from the Jersey post offices at Broad Street, St Helier and Rue Des Pres, St Saviour from issue day and can be ordered online now at www.jerseystamps.com or
