A special commemorative sheet of stamps will be issued by Jersey Post on Friday to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Royal Air Forces Association Jersey Branch, whilst helping to raise funds for the charity.

The exclusively designed sheets are made up of a collection of historic photographs showing some of the organisation’s members. Set within the sheets are twenty self-adhesive Local Letter stamps depicting the Crest of Jersey, each affixed to a decorative label depicting the official RAFA logo. £1 from each of the collectable sheets sold will be donated to the Jersey branch of the Royal Air Forces Association.

The Royal Air Forces Association of Jersey was founded on 30 October 1925, making the Jersey branch the oldest in the world. It is the first welfare organisation formed by ex-airmen to provide social services for any comrades or their dependents whose needs result from service in the Air Forces of the Crown.

“The Jersey branch kindly provided us with some wonderful images of their past members including uniformed portraits, pictures taken at the 1948 Festival of Remembrance, images of the 1949 RAFA Liberation Day float and even members’ wedding photographs. They give a really personal feel to the commemorative sheets and serve to illustrate all that the organisation stands for,” comments Chris Elligott, Jersey Post’s Philatelic Production Coordinator. “The charity is part of the Royal Air Force Family providing support to Service personnel. It continues to do invaluable work within the Island and we wanted to produce something appropriate to mark their milestone 90th anniversary.”

In addition to the commemorative sheets, Jersey flag stamps from Jersey Post’s JE02 Post & Go kiosk at Broad Street post office will vend Post & Go stamp labels with a special RAFA overprint from 30 October. The overprint will read: RAFA Jersey 90 and will be available for one month only.

Both the Commemorative Sheets and the Post & Go stamps will be available to buy from the philatelic area at Broad Street Post office, online at www.jerseystamps.com or by contacting the Jersey Philatelic Bureau on: 00 44 (0)1534 516320.
