On 25 May 2018 Jersey Post will issue a set of eight stamps to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA).

The JSPCA was established in 1868 with the aim of changing attitudes of the public towards animals and in 1913 local resident, Miss Frances Elizabeth Wilson, founded the Jersey Animals’ Shelter to care for abandoned, sick, injured and stray animals.

Today, the JSPCA provides many services not only covering animal welfare and rescuing injured animals, but also providing educational and work experience opportunities for youth and special interest groups.  Volunteers play a large part in helping with the day-to-day running of the Animals’ Shelter through their fundraising activities and also through time spent giving attention to, handling and socialising animals before re-homing

Melanie Gouzinis, Head of Philatelic at Jersey Post said, “The stamps have been illustrated by wildlife artist Andrew Hutchinson who has depicted a variety of birds and animals and a number of the invaluable services provided by the Animals’ Shelter today.”

Jersey Post’s 150 Years of the JSPCA stamps will be available to buy from all branches of Jersey Post from 25 May 2018. Philatelic stamp products such as Miniature Sheets, First Day Covers and Presentation Packs will be available from the Jersey Post offices at Broad Street, St Helier and Rue Des Pres, St Saviour on issue day and can be ordered now at www.jerseystamps.com or by telephoning the Jersey Philatelic Bureau on: 00 44 (0)1534 516320.
